Move aside bobble heads, some MLB teams are really stepping up their game when it comes to game-day giveaways. As if the joy of watching a baseball game isn’t enough, ballparks have gotten creative this season in luring fans to games with their giveaways. Here is my list of the top 5 game day giveaway this season:
1. Cowboy Boot Mug
Because who doesn’t need a cowboy boot shaped mug with the Astros logo on it? On August 8th, the Houston Atros plan to give away this mug to their first 10,000 fans. There is the unofficial guarantee that promises that it will be a great conversation starter at parties.
2. “Phillie Phanatic Phun” glasses
On May 18th, during the Phillies vs Reds game, the Phillies gave out these fashionable glasses to kids 14 and younger. They seem to be inspired by the good looks of their famous mascot, Phillie Phanatic. In addition to the fun of wearing them during the game, I predict that some may see daylight again on October 31st.
3. Pirates Fedora
In my humble opinion, I believe this tops the list for the most un-baseball related giveaway. However, that doesn’t mean that having a Pirates fedora wouldn’t be awesome. On May 3rd, 25,000 lucky fans got to walk away with this Pirates fedora.
4. Cubs Mini Etch-A-Sketch
On July 13th, the Chicago Cubs gave away this Cubs themed mini Etch-A-Sketch to the first 5,000 kids during the Cubs vs Braves game. This popular toy is a throwback to the Baby Boom generation where it was at its peak. To the kids who were lucky enough to experience and get their hands on this timeless toy, I’m sure that some parents had the joy of playing with their favorite toy once again. Which makes me wonder, who was this giveaway really intended for?
5. Mr. Redlegs Hat and Over-sized Mustache
Last but not least, this giveaway happened at the Reds vs Nationals game at Great American Ballpark on July 26th. Mr. Redlegs is an icon in Cincinnati and I’m sure downtown got interesting Saturday night when there were 20,000 fans walking around with a Reds striped hat and over-sized mustache. Excuse me, “I mustache you a question.”
Baseball games provide hours of entertainment from the Spring through the Fall, but they just got a little more fun with these unique giveaways. I am looking forward to what is to come in the 2015 season.
